Photos to Ponder is an ongoing thought experiment by “student of the world” Nick Collier. Its purpose is to challenge the viewer to think about the reason an image would come to be in its most extensive history. An image can be a screenshot of a social media post or television show, edited text superimposed over-top of an image, a simple photograph, or almost anything one can imagine.
When looking at any image on this site, try to imagine yourself explaining it to some kind of pilgrim or caveman. Then ask yourself “(Why) was this image made? What purpose does it serve? What does it have to say about the world we live in? What may have happened in the life of the creator to lead them to create it?” and finally– don’t be content with the answers you formulate. Some things are unexplainable.
